Why pair art with a piano?
Bringing music and art together in your home creates an atmosphere that is both inspiring and timeless. Just as a piano sets the tone for gatherings and everyday enjoyment, original artwork enriches the space visually and emotionally. Together, they form a centerpiece that reflects your values, passions, and commitment to creativity.
- A cohesive centerpiece: A grand or upright becomes the visual heart of a room; original art completes the story.
- Sound + sight: Your family’s musical moments gain a visual legacy—commission your pianist’s hands, a favorite performance, or a subject meaningful to your home.
- Support local arts: Patron Pricing helps you invest in a Seattle artist while choosing the instrument you’ll play for decades.
What is encaustic painting?
Encaustic painting is a wax-based medium characterized by luminous color and a richly textured surface. It originated in Ancient Greece and Greco-Roman Egypt more than 2,000 years ago, with the Fayum funerary portraits standing as enduring examples. The term encaustic comes from the Greek word enkaustikos, meaning “to heat” or “to burn.”
The process uses heated beeswax mixed with damar resin and pigments, applied while warm with brushes, spatulas, or poured directly. Once cooled, the wax can be reheated or carved to create layered effects and even embedded with objects. Though eclipsed for centuries by oil and tempera, encaustic painting is once again a favored medium among contemporary artists for its versatility, durability, and radiant finish.
